## Key takeaways

- Choose one useful workflow before choosing an app builder.
- Include permissions, errors, and ongoing ownership in the first release.
- Judge progress by completed business tasks and reviewable evidence.

Vibe coding can help build a real business app when the project has a defined workflow, an appropriate technical design, and someone responsible for checking the result. A working demonstration is a useful starting point. Before customers or staff depend on it, verify the data, permissions, failure paths, and operating arrangements that the workflow needs.

The business interest is visible in [Lovable's 2026 Build Economy study](https://thebuildeconomy.lovable.app/), which examines platform activity and a user survey. That is evidence about one vendor's users, not a guarantee that a particular app will succeed. Your decision needs a business case and a manageable first scope.

## Which business problem should I start with?

Pick a task people already perform and can describe clearly. For a maintenance company, that might be receiving a repair request, assigning a staff member, and recording completion. Start with that path before adding inventory predictions, invoicing, and a customer mobile app.

Write down who starts the task, what information they provide, who may change it, and what proves completion. If the team disagrees about those rules, resolve them before asking an AI tool to implement the workflow. Otherwise the generated app will encode whichever assumption happened to enter the prompt.

Include the current manual process in the brief. It gives the team something concrete to compare with the software and reveals useful exceptions.

## What belongs in the first release?

| Area | Example question for a repair-request app |
| --- | --- |
| User journey | Can a request reach the right staff member? |
| Access | Can customers see only their own requests? |
| Data | What details must be kept after completion? |
| Errors | What happens when assignment or notification fails? |
| Operations | Who can investigate a request that went missing? |

A first release can be small while still covering these questions. Removing an optional feature is different from omitting a permission check on the feature you keep.

## How do I test whether it is useful?

Run a limited pilot with representative tasks. Ask staff to complete the same work they previously performed manually, including an incomplete request and a reassignment. Record where they stop, what they correct, and whether the next person receives the information they need.

For an illustrative pilot, ten requests that reach completion with a clear record can teach you more than a demonstration containing fifty screens. Ten is an example, not a universal acceptance threshold. Choose a sample that reflects the volume and exceptions in your business.

Keep a human fallback while learning. An app failure should have a defined owner and a way to continue the work, even if that temporarily means returning to the existing process.

## What should I expect from the developer?

Ask for access to the repository, a description of the connected accounts, test evidence for the critical journey, and deployment instructions. Agree what is included in maintenance and which changes require another estimate.

If an AI coding agent produced a feature, the engineer should still be able to explain its data flow and review the changes. A long prompt history does not replace an understandable application.

## Put a business workflow into a first release

Bring your current process, target users, and one example of a completed task. [Discuss a scoped vibe-coded MVP](https://foundrysoft.co/services/vibe-coded-mvp-development) with FoundrySoft so the first build has clear acceptance criteria and a useful handover.

## Frequently asked questions

**Do I need to know how to code?**

You can define the business problem without coding. Someone still needs to assess the implementation, investigate failures, and maintain the app. Decide who holds that responsibility before launch.

**Should every business app include AI?**

No. AI-assisted development describes how the app is built. The finished application may be an ordinary booking tool, portal, or reporting interface without an AI feature.

**Can I begin with an app I already generated?**

Yes. Review what it already does against the intended workflow. Keep useful parts where they meet the requirements, and scope the gaps before adding more features.
