## Key takeaways

- A release plan must account for data and external actions as well as code.
- Verify the app in its target environment before accepting the release.
- Test the recovery steps relevant to the changes being made.

Deploy a vibe-coded business app through a defined release process: identify the version and environment, check the important workflows, plan data changes, and agree how the team will recover if the release fails. Rolling back application code does not automatically reverse database changes or actions already sent to external systems.

PostgreSQL's [backup and restore documentation](https://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/backup-dump.html) explains one approach to recreating database state from a dump. The appropriate recovery arrangement depends on your database, hosting, data-loss tolerance, and the changes in the release.

## What should be decided before deployment?

Record the version being released, the target environment, required configuration, and the people responsible for deployment and acceptance. Confirm that domains, credentials, integrations, and data access are set up for the intended environment.

Check how production differs from a local preview. A missing environment value, different database, or restricted network connection can change behaviour even when the same code ran successfully on a developer's machine.

Give the person accepting the release a short list of business checks. They need to know what result establishes that the app is working for the intended users.

## Why do database changes need a separate plan?

A release might rename a field, change how records are interpreted, or add a new relationship. An earlier application version may not understand the changed data. That makes "redeploy yesterday's build" an incomplete recovery instruction.

Ask the engineer to explain the migration, its compatibility assumptions, and what happens to records created during the transition. Determine whether the migration can be safely reversed or whether another recovery approach is required.

In an illustrative order-management app, changing the status model can affect old orders, new orders, and reports. Verify each relevant case instead of checking only that the new screen loads.

## What belongs in a release checklist?

| Check | Intended evidence |
| --- | --- |
| Correct version and configuration | Release record and target-environment settings |
| Critical user journey | A completed representative business task |
| Data changes | Migration and compatibility verification |
| Monitoring | Ability to detect relevant failures |
| Recovery | Documented steps and appropriate rehearsal |
| Responsibility | Named deployment, acceptance, and incident owners |

Keep the checklist proportionate. It should help people make the release decision, not become a long form everyone signs without reading.

## How should a recovery rehearsal work?

Use a suitable non-production environment and representative data to check the important steps. Confirm that the team can locate the required backups, configuration, credentials, and release artifacts.

Measure the parts of recovery that matter to the business, such as how long the workflow is unavailable and which records might need reconciliation. A backup job marked successful does not establish that the application can be restored and used.

After launch, review the critical journey and relevant operational signals. If an external message, booking, or payment was already sent, recovery may require correcting business records or following a provider's process in addition to changing software.

## Plan a release your team can recover

Bring the deployment setup, data changes, and the workflows that must remain available. [Discuss production-readiness support](https://foundrysoft.co/services/vibe-coded-app-production) to define release checks and a recovery plan before the next launch.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can we use a platform's rollback button?**

It may help restore a previous application version, but check exactly what it changes. Data, configuration, files, and external actions may need separate handling.

**Do small apps need backups?**

Assess the information and business activity the app holds. Choose a recovery arrangement based on the actual consequences of data loss rather than raw application size.

**Should we deploy automatically after every agent change?**

Define which changes may be released automatically and what checks they must pass. Keep approval and verification appropriate to the consequences of the affected workflow.
