## Key takeaways

- Agree the systems, environments, and workflows included in the review.
- Ask for reproducible findings and business impact rather than a score alone.
- Keep remediation and verification responsibilities explicit.

A useful security audit of a vibe-coded app should define the scope, examine the relevant access and data boundaries, and deliver findings with evidence and priorities. It should also explain what was not examined. Ask how fixes will be verified and who is responsible for implementing them.

The [OWASP Web Security Testing Guide](https://owasp.org/projects/web-security-testing-guide) is a recognized resource for planning web-application security tests. It gives reviewers a structured reference, while the application's actual workflows determine which checks matter for your engagement.

## Agree the review boundary first

Give the reviewer a list of the application, APIs, database, file storage, identity provider, and important integrations. Identify the environments they may test and arrange suitable test accounts. Testing should have explicit authorization and conditions.

A quote for "an AI app audit" is difficult to compare when one supplier examines a public page and another reviews authenticated workflows and configuration. Ask both to describe their coverage in the same terms.

Include the roles that matter. A customer, staff member, and administrator may encounter different paths and have different authority over the same record.

## What should the reviewer inspect?

The scope may include authentication, authorization, input handling, credential exposure, dependencies, uploads, and configuration. The reviewer should connect those checks to the application's purpose.

For an illustrative booking platform, a valuable finding could show that one customer can alter another customer's booking through an API request. A list of generic recommendations without evidence of the affected path gives the developer less to act on.

Ask whether the review covers business actions such as approvals, refunds, and invitations. These boundaries can matter more than the apparent complexity of the interface.

## What should the report contain?

| Report element | Why the buyer needs it |
| --- | --- |
| Affected component and workflow | Locates the issue in the application |
| Evidence and reproduction conditions | Lets an authorized team verify the finding |
| Consequence | Explains what the failure enables |
| Priority and reasoning | Supports decisions about the order of work |
| Suggested remediation | Gives the implementing team a starting point |
| Scope and limitations | Prevents the report being treated as a universal guarantee |

Keep detailed technical evidence restricted to the people who need it. A sales presentation does not need to include sensitive records or credentials.

## How should fixes be handled?

Separate the review from the implementation proposal so you can understand each deliverable. The same supplier may do both, but the agreed scope should identify which findings are included and what happens when a fix uncovers another issue.

Request verification of the original failure and an appropriate regression check after remediation. Marking an issue "fixed" because code changed does not establish that the boundary now works.

Record unresolved findings and the responsible owner. If launch depends on a particular control, confirm that it was checked in the intended deployment rather than only in a developer's local environment.

## Get a review you can act on

## Frequently asked questions

**Is an audit the same as a penetration test?**

Suppliers use these terms differently. Compare the agreed activities, access, methodology, deliverables, and limitations instead of relying on the engagement name.

**Will an audit certify that the app is safe?**

A review establishes evidence for a defined scope and time window. It does not prove that every possible vulnerability or future change has been assessed.

**Can our existing developer fix the findings?**

Yes. Ask for sufficient detail to reproduce and assess each issue, then agree who will verify the implemented fix and maintain the relevant regression checks.
